Club run reports - 10th March

Category 6 ride led by Danny Hood

After Mike's ride report last week about my luck with the weather when leading rides, I was expecting exactly what I got today. That being, gale force winds and heavy rain showers. Tony met me at the start and more or less press-ganged me into going ahead with the ride. So it was kit on and man up time for me and make up on and woman up for Tony. He does look better than you'd imagine. Thinking we'd be the only two brave enough to face the tempest, I decided to shorten the ride from roughly 35 miles to Whitwell, down to about 10 miles to Tewin. Unbelievably some more lunatics, oops, I mean dedicated cyclists, arrived for the SAS survival course better known as cat six. So off we set into the tornado. Luckily for me there were one or two gentlemen who could be described as a bit portly, and I tucked in behind these for some respite. One member decided against the café stop, so it was the magnificent seven refuelling for the homeward leg. Peter, who had had a fight with the tarmac the day before and come off worse, was OK with heading straight home. The wind was perfect in direction and pushed us back to base. Sometimes this cycling lark is a piece of wee..
What did we find out today?  This was probably the shortest club run ever  - check.
Tony took on the role of Yul Brynner in the magnificent seven - check.
And how I manage to keep my Mrs so happy when there's just the two of us marooned on the island of Gozo for three weeks every summer. Ask Jane... check.
