Mister Ed confirms the category 6 route back to Ware

Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos

The weather forecast looked cold for today with 7°C at the beginning, rising to 12°C. However, as the clocks have rolled forwards, I wore shorts and a non-sleeved jersey with arm warmers plus a gilet. It didn’t feel that bad on the way up. I met Leigh - it was a new bike day for Leigh, an all singing and dancing 85 speed super duper bike. OK, OK, I may have exaggerated on the number of gears, but it was close to that.

We arrived in Ware at 8:40 and Claire and Chris were already there setting their bikes up. Claire, the all knowing and soothsayer/aficionado of Garmin, couldn’t find hers! Yes, she had left it in the car.

More Wheelers started rolling in and by five to nine we were eleven, meeting one along the way. Nice to have a new rider out with us, Rodney B. Welcome to the Wheelers, Rodney.

Everyone turned up in their winter wear except me in shorts. You all need to man up!

We set off soon after nine with Carolyn smarting at the fact we left late! Unfortunately Pete couldn’t be with us as his hip was giving him some gyp. Get well soon Pete. As we went through Cold Christmas Lane I felt a tad under dressed. It was a cold wind. Yada, yada, ride, ride, through the lanes, ride, ride. Not a great deal happened on the outward leg - the usual banter, obviously in the gutter, apart from Carolyn, who only swore once :-).

We got to Cammas Hall at a quarter to eleven. All went in like a shot and ordered. Obviously, Carolyn opted for chips (if you don’t know Carolyn (bulking the report), then I’ll tell you - she doesn’t like chips). The cafe has started a beeper system and it worked well, despite the slow service.

All fed and watered by 11:30, we rode off. Once again, not a great deal happened apart from Leigh and Mark S trying to make friends with some gee gees (see image). Can anyone give me a good caption for it? Message me and there may be a prize (there won’t be a prize, but it sounds better, doesn’t it).

Carolyn advised she wanted to take her jacket off, so we stopped and she then proceeded to fold the jacket. Carolyn had a suitcase bolted (secured with two locks (yes I’m bulking the report out)) to the front of the handlebars. However she said it wouldn’t fit as she had a nougat in it which Claire had given her for a birthday treat. WTAF is all I can say.

Nearly back, Claire challenged me to a fast ride back into Ware. I accepted the challenge and off we raced. OK, so Claire didn’t actually challenge me, but I rode off into the sunset and beat her. You snooze, you lose.

All in all a lovely ride with great company and not one mechanical. Sorry the report is so short!

Over and out. Love and kisses. Obviously, written from the throne.
