Category 6 ride led by Carolyn Kelleway

With Tony still struggling with his back, I stepped up to lead category 6 this week to the lovely Mayfield Bakery.

I was a bit surprised to get up to a frost, but decided it would be OK and warm up quickly - I hoped!

So six hardy riders set off from Allenbury's, including Adrian with his lovely new Ribble bike and Amanda on her new Ciocc bike. New bike day!

All was going well and no flooded roads until the first puncture 1/2 way up Bourne Lane. Two riders efficiently sorted it out while the rest of us had a good old natter. Resolved, off we went - well, starting on a hill is not easy especially on a new bike and there was one small crash but no noise or fuss. Soon Amanda was back on her bike but then, a few metres later another puncture. Same bike, same puncture, oh dear. Never mind. Collective sharing of inner tubes and gas canisters got the job done. Two quotes for the day: “ no one should lick someone else’s tube” and “ is it hard enough?”. Say no more.

Uneventful journey ensued to the bakery to find two injured riders, smiling and warm waiting for us, having driven up. So lovely to see you, Tony and David. Get well soon, we miss you.

The bakery felt a bit  Thremhallesk, with stressed staff and lengthy waits for drinks but jolly banter and a few David jokes warmed us up.

Journey home all very straight forward. Lovely ride everyone and thanks for coming along
