Cat 5 run led by Cathy
7 of us set out from Puckeridge to Clavering via Great Chishill and Elmdon and the leader at least was thankful that the wind had died down from the previous weekend, as this meant there was a greater chance of staying upright on her bike. The outer journey was interrupted by Bob's dramatic puncture. There must be some law, the opposite of Sod's law, that means a puncture occurs going up a hill, thereby allowing all to take a welcome rest. After much discussion about the mending of the puncture, not sure that the expression, "Many hands make light work" , applied in this case, we continued on the route. There was some attempt by the ride participants to shorten the route due to the delay, the reasoning being that this would mean we would be well received by the cafe, but in reality meant we avoided a hill. However, the leader saw through this ruse and persisted with the original plan. Lunch as it happened was very pleasant and tables were plentiful and service good. The return leg was uneventful and we managed to complete it before the rain started. 45 miles
Cat 6 ride led by Mike E
In spite of the best efforts of the ride leader to ruin everyone's day with a broken chain and gears as reliable as the Reading goalkeeper against Arsenal, 10 left and returned to Ware with a stop in the garden room at Church Farm, Ardeley. One rider joined at Standon after missing le petit depart of the cat 5 ride. 32 miles overall.
Cat 3 ride led by Barry P
Six riders set off on a mystery tour of Essex ,out via Roydon, Epping, Passingford Bridge and then a short stretch on the A113 to Marden Ash where we turned for Stondon Massey and our cafe stop at Norton Heath, a popular stop for many Essex clubs. Return was via Willingale, Fyfield, Matching Tye, Sheering to Sawbridgeworth, Much Hadham and Ware - 60 miles and one flat!
