Cat 5 run led by Ian S
2 hardy souls plus me started in the rain, ("it'll soon stop") from Much Hadham and rode via Sheering, Matching Tye, Fyfield, Willingale and Norton Heath to Blackmore (still raining). Lovely home made cakes and scones in the bespoke conservatory adjoining Megarrys, (the bit at the back with the old armchairs and plastic corrugated roof). The rain had just stopped when we emerged and eventually a bit of sun started to dry us off on the homeward run. No incidents apart from Steve's phantom puncture and averaged a fairly brisk 14,8 mph over the 50 miles as there were just the three of us.

Wet start to the ride but a puncture interrupted the mirth on the way to the Village Tearoom. Arriving wet and cold we found that, for the first time ever, the Tearoom was freezing cold. Despite them remembering the Wheeler who disrupted the place with his volume on our last visit, they were happy to serve us with cakes and bacon sandwiches. The return journey was fine until two of the Cheshunt Posse punctured when only a mile from Allenburys. 11 riders

Looked like would be terrible weather but was warm wet and fairly light (compared to 3pm deluge I just beat home) for the outleg, which just got us into the edge of Chilterns proper. Delayed in cafe and we were in as close to summer mode for the return, as pocket and pannier space allowed, as the sun came out. Shortly, after we started back John Mac started breaking spokes and serial puncturing to allow recovery after a series of hills and a fast gradual drop into whitwell. A reasonably quick return via Welwyn on the B1000. The sight of the darkest thickest thunderclouds (motor)vated me home along the A119 and blue hill to Stevenage, avoiding charity ride marshals trying to divert me off. 54 miles 14.7 mph
