Cat 6 run led by Mike E
Once a month in the summer season the category 6 mob pretend to be real cyclists, and plan and execute a 50 mile ride at their own peculiar pace. The May ride was to Great Dunmow. Twelve set off on this joyous odyessy, reduced to eleven when one rider departed to a family gathering. The remainder achieved their half way goal at the Scrumptious Tea Room. At this point controversy developed when a member, allegedly suffering from man flu, called International Rescue for a lift home. Unfortunately Scott and Virgil were dealing with other matters, so our sniffling member relied on Mrs Member to pick him up and deliver him to his sick bed. Never before have two ride points been earned under such false pretences.
The return leg was made more difficult by some light drizzle and a slight headwind. These irritations were dealt with by the growing confidence of a group wondering why 50 miles were such a big deal, until..... a chain became trapped in a pedal mechanism. Once again International Rescue were summoned, but they were still dealing with that pesky cat up a tree. So it was left to a few intrepid members deploying a combination of brute force and Allen keys to release the trapped chain. All returned, albeit in dribs and drabs, to the start point.
