Cat X led by Barry Page
Having destroyed the opposition in the morning TT Barry led his defeated victims plus some non-combatants on a pleasant, sunlit ride to Buntingford via Dane End. After tea and cake the group crossed the Buntingford-Hare Street col and returned via the B1368.
All was smooth progress until guest Paul Milner, applying maximum power in order to attack the A10 round-a-bout near Puckeridge, ripped his chain apart. Miraculously a man appeared from Rob's Bikes who, presumably, was providing support for the Essex sportive. Paul was left in good hands whilst the rest headed back home.
Cat 6 led by Mike East
A group of nine were not enticed by racing 10 miles without being able to change gear, nor by a 62 mile adventure from Ware to Essex. All nine claimed to be proud owners of a scrubbing brush already. Instead they sallied forth to Codicote Garden Centre. The route included the recently resurfaced back road to St Paul's Walden, as previously reported excitedly by Captain Bob. In fact we had to stop Bob completing the snagging process in order to make the cafe. The return route included some "Quiet lanes" around Ayton St Peter - Danny N had left us by this point. Back at 1.15 pm, 32 miles, chilly start, warm and sunny on the way back, no mechanicals.
