Saturday Ride
Three riders, Nathan Brede, David Scales and Gareth Wignall, arrived at Race HQ for the 3 rd Saturday Lanes Loop. Riding out to Hunsdon, a quick pop along the A414, on to High Wych, only stopping for 2 sets of traffic lights and a level crossing. Heading through to Furneux Pelham and Hare Street before making a hard push back to Thundridge into the headwind. 42 miles Av. 18 mph
Cat 6 run led by Danny H
Twelve takers for today's cat 6 ride to 'Coffee corner' cafe in Bishops Stortford.
This used to be one of our regular cafe stops until they closed down. They have
reopened in new premises a few doors down so I thought we'd give it a go again. (
For the record the cakes have gone downhill a bit although the coffee was still
good.) The outward leg was the shorter of the two, so we arrived nice and early.
After refreshments had been taken we set off for home. I had decided on a longer
ride back and longer it turned out to be.... and harder than expected due to the
strong headwind we faced all the way back.
In honour of our missing regular Mike the map I threw in a little curve ball of my
own. Firstly by taking a quick right turn that the stragglers missed, meaning they
had to continue further down the road and loop back to us. Secondly by deciding
after a couple riders had gone off ahead that we were going to take a different
route to the one they thought we were talking. The extra mileage did them all good,
although judging by the moaning especially when we hit the roads covered in
chippings you'd never of guessed they appreciated it. "Mike, it was like you were
there on my shoulder guiding me".
The peloton split on the way back and we arrived back to base a while later than
most. A quick dose of vitamin G in the Allenburys bar helped with the recovery.
Cheers!!
