Category 5 ride led by John Farnham
Today we actually did the ride from Ware to Mill End Plants that we didn't quite manage two weeks ago due to the rain and high winds. It was still very windy on parts of our route out through Barwick Ford, Dane End, Buntingford and Sandon but at least the showers missed us. A warm welcome and good service as usual at this cycling friendly establishment. Return with slightly more tail wind in places via Ardeley, Great Munden, Latchford, and Barwick Ford. The threatening black clouds finally dumped some rain on us for the last few miles from Wareside back to Ware. 44 miles, no punctures or tumbles and only one small saddle adjustment required.
Category 6 ride led (badly) by Mike East
The first half of this ride to Cafe Mocha in Bishops Stortford was routine fare for a group of nine. The cafe was its usual unsophisticated self, with a warm welcome and simple food. It was the return journey when things went wrong.
Four departed unaware that four had remained to fix a puncture. One, in between, had set off and got tangled up in the town one way system. Phone calls failed to ameliorate the confusion and in the end, like the 1588 armada, various groups limped back into port. A stiff wind, and at the very end, rain made the return uncomfortable as well as a fiasco. Many apologies from this writer.
