Cat 5 run led by John F
The early morning rain had cleared away by the time of the 9.30 kick off from Much Hadham but only 4 riders lined up for the start. Our outward route took us via a shallow Much Hadham ford, Green Tye, Spellbrook, Little Hallingbury, Hatfield Forest, Hatfield Broad Oak, Hellmans Cross, Bacon End to Great Dunmow. Café in the High Street this time - The Tea Tree Café by the Doctors Pond is now closed. Return through Little Easton, Brick End, Takeley, Puttocks End, Bush End, Hatfield Forest, Little Hallingbury, Spellbrook, Green Tye back to Much Hadham. 43 miles. No mechanicals or punctures.
Cat 6 run led by Mike E
Following the early morning rain, the riders removed the covers from the course and tottered, 18 strong, on their way to Something Lovely at Puckeridge via Furneux Pelham. Three riders chose alternative ways home, leaving the main peleton with just one issue - another "Mike-anical", this week a puncture. 32 miles.
Cat 3 run led by Peter B
Five takers for the Cat 3 run, following the Training Ride route but at a steadier pace and with the all-important café stop. This was a nice rolling route out through Stanstead Abbots, Widford and Much Hadham then East via Spellbrook to Great Canfield then through various Rodings with a detour to White Roding for the café stop at Brett’s Farm - good service and (very) large portions of cake! One rider set off for a solo short cut to make an appointment with his daughters at St George’s Day Parade (good man - got to get your priorities right!). The remaining four were then back on the route via Fyfield, Moreton, Matching Green, Hatfield Heath (resisting the pull of another café stop), Allens Green and reverse the outbound route to Widford then Wareside, Fanhams Hall Road and home. One puncture and 60 miles without any rain. Thanks to Clive Wellings for the route and Mr Garmin for helping us follow it.
