Cat 3 ride led by Ian P
A very pleasant ride out from Ware to the pop-up cafe in Great Chishill (just outside Royston).
Well I say cafe but it was actually the front room of a very nice bungalow next to the church. From May onwards the cafe is actually the church but out of season it is volunteers’ front rooms!
Friendly welcome, quick service, fresh homemade soup and cake and excellent price...what's not to love!!
The ride itself was unveventful (we even managed to not lose John H!) with no dramas. We did get caught up a few times with the Sportive but managed to avoid most of the traffic.
We should definitely do the pop-up again in the summer.
Cat 5 ride led by Ian S
Just Valdis and I today. It seems the old "Easy riders" are still understandably loyal to the new "Cat 6", and the old "Mediums" seem to gravitate to the possibly slightly more intense "Cat 3". However I am sure the new "Cat 5" will find it's niche.
A pleasant, slightly foreshortened ride to visit the long neglected and newly named "March Hare". Sat outside in the garden on a beautiful spring like morning, service also sunny and quality of consumables excellent.
Cat 6 ride led by Mike
Like the crocuses currently thrusting through the soil as spring marches on, a number of members and guests emerged from their hibernal slumber and joined the ride to Wandon End and back. As a consequence there were 19 riders. Outwards it was warm and sunny. After the break it turned cloudy and colder, and rain threatened - thankfully it never arrived. No bike mechanicals, although a stationery fall and some cramp affected two. Both recovered without need of the air ambulance.
