Medical ID

Medical ID

09 Apr 25

Please read this message and we strongly recommend following taking the straightforward actions set out.

A cycling friends friend was out with another cyclist friend. They were riding along and he looked behind and saw his friend just come off his bike and fall to the ground. Unfortunately, they had a massive heart attack and chest compression ensued, but unfortunately they passed away.

Then the realisation dawned, they didn’t know any of his friends next of kin’s telephone number. So, lots of phone calls were made to be able to contact their partner.

Now after a lot of thought and chats with other members, we need some form of way of contacting the next of kin on our club rides. This has now been discussed in committee and the consensus is for riders to have some form of medical ID on them, either within their phone or with some form of Medical ID card. Also, it would be useful if everyone had what3words on their phones. If you haven’t got either of them, can I ask that you ensure you have your medical ID on your phone and also install what3words on your phone.

We are also considering getting medical ID blank cards for the members. If you are interested/would prefer a physical medical ID card, please contact Tony Dos Santos.

How to enter your medical ID on your iPhone: Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then tap "Medical ID" and "Edit" to add your information and emergency contacts, ensuring "Show When Locked" is enabled for easy access in an emergency.

How to enter your medical ID on your Android: Open the "Safety app," sign in to your Google Account, tap "Your info," and then add your medical information and emergency contacts, ensuring "Show on Lock screen" is enabled.

To install what3words on your phones, type what3words into either the playstore (on Android) and on the Apple App Store, once again type what3words.

I know it’s a little sombre post, but, life’s too short and having both of those items “could” be a life saver, obviously, if you have a medical condition, that would be on the medical ID or on the card.
