We're 90 this year!

28 May 18

On 14 th  July 1928 seven young men and one woman met at the Blackbirds pub in Hertford and decided to form a cycling club, naming it the "Blackbirds CC". Soon after it became the "Hertfordshire Wheelers". Later that month 18 riders took part in the first club run from The Blackbirds pub at 7.30 am. On Sunday the 15th July 2018 the club will celebrate this anniversary at Allenburys Sports and Social Club in Ware. There will be displays and memorabilia of the Club's history and an exhibition of historic bikes. These will include the one used by Tim Dobson (still an active Wheeler) to win the Junior National '25' title in 1970 and the bike Gareth Wignall rode when recently he beat Tim's 1978 50 mile TT Club record. Club runs on the anniversary day start at Allenburys then pass the Blackbirds pub in Hertford pausing for a group photo at the War Memorial. They will then return to Allenburys in time for a buffet lunch.
