Cat 6 run led by Mike E
It is easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than to get a northerner to part with his money - this may well be a paraphrase of a biblical verse, but it is also a truism. A northern soul will carefully check the cost of a new lead for his whippet or of a pint of mild. Those who move sarf are still frugal, complaining endlessly about the price of the cost of living. But occasionally there are bargains to be had, not least at the Mocha Cafe in Bishops' Stortford - £2.80 for a bacon or sausage sandwich and a cuppa tea. Ey up ecky thump, get in there! Could you get that value in Batley, Burnley or Bootle? Excellent choice of venue by the (northern) ride leader, you might say. Or maybe not, if you are a coffee and cake lover (aka a southern softie).
Anyway, the stated purpose of the category 6 Sunday morning sojourn is to pedal a while. Fourteen left Ware, losing one soon for personal reasons but then inexplicably gaining one other just before the cafe. A shorter ride back, but 32 miles overall, all done by 1 pm. Time enough in the afternoon to book that special anniversary occasion at the Mocha Cafe. I wonder if they do wedding receptions!
