Category 3 ride led by Graham Knight
Seven gathered in sunshine at Hertford for a ride to the Chilterns. The initial chill was soon dispelled and gilets and arm-warmers were dispensed with along the way. The route was more-or-less straight out and back to Harlington, though with minor deviations to add variety. One such was an unintended stretch of the A6 as a result of mis-navigation by the leader. This might be presumed to be creeping senility - though the leader maintains, after consulting Street View, that the sign for Hexton had been removed.
Poplars Garden Centre provided generous portions which both fuelled and weighed down the participants before the assault on the steep side of the Chilterns. Once that was accomplished the group enjoyed the gentle down-hill (and tail-wind) back to Whitwell and then to Hertford via Tewin.
Category 6 ride led by Mike East
A healthy fourteen (the number, not the riders) gathered at Ware for a schlep in fine weather to Cammas Hall near Hatfield Broad Oak. Service at the farm was in stark contrast to last week's disappointment at Ardeley. A few splintered from the group on the way back, but we also gained post TT Barry. Summer fitness accounted for the fair pace. 39 miles and no incidents.
