Category 6 ride led by Bob Brown
Ten riders set off bang on 9.30 from Allenburys, bound for Thremhall Park, Takeley, right next to Stanstead Airport runway. You might detect a trend here as we were next to Luton Airport last week!
We took a similar route as the one to Hatfield Heath, before turning off on the long straight road for Takeley.
The Cat 6ers liked the new (for them) café – thank you Peter Walton for the heads up – and enjoyed the fast service and good, inexpensive, food whilst watching the planes take off. The free top up of coffee was a nice touch too.
An uneventful ride back with the relatively rare spectacle of almost the whole peloton making it back to Allenburys. 38 miles at 12.5 mph.
Category 5 ride led by John Farnham
A rare start from Puckeridge drew 8 Wheelers for a rather lumpy route to Hinxworth via Great Munden, Ardeley, Weston, Clothall, Bird Hill, Baldock, Bygrave, and Ashwell to Farrowby Farm. Fortunately the café is well organised and cyclist friendly and quickly produced some nice food and drink. Return through Ashwell, Slip End, Sandon, Buntingford, Westmill, Cherry Green, Great Munden back to Puckeridge. An overcast but dry day except when riding through the hamlet of Nasty, when a short shower dampened our return leg. 45 miles.
