Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos
I had never been to Clavering Lakes before, so I took it upon myself to lead and to have a bit of an adventure. I know it’s the blind leading the blind, but it had to be done. 15 turned up on a lovely summer's morn, Sun is shinin' in the sky, There ain't a cloud in sight, It's stopped rainin' everybody's in a play, And don't you know It's a beautiful new day, hey hey (sorry, just having a sing along). We all road off with the Yellow Submarine and onto a lovely ride. I asked Danny if he could be my “Wingman”, so he agreed to be “Goose” for the day, as I had not counted how many riders we had. Danny said he would go and count. About 30 minutes into the ride, I asked Danny how many there were and he answered “I dunno” – this made me chuckle. Not a great deal happened along the way, just the one puncture which Franco fixed in two seconds flat, I kid you not.
We got to Clavering Lakes and I was given a rollicking for not phoning in advance (note to self - I must phone the café when there is 15 of us) by the lady serving. We were then told that we could not pay individually. Graham and John, then left in utter disgust (and I don’t blame them). We then had to wait for about 45 minutes for our cakes and an hour for a bacon roll and an ice cream sundae. I really don’t know how these places survive. Whilst waiting we were all getting some deserved rays and having a good chin wag. Danny (Goose) Hood was on fine form.
On the way back there were no mechanicals, or so I thought, then after reaching home I found out that Paul’s pedal had fallen off. Paul, I am sorry, I assumed that you were in front of me, when I turned off with Franco, I honestly thought you and Jac had passed me. I think from now on I shall give my number out to all that ride with me. Special thanks to Ian Smith for being the “Map” today as there were a couple of roads that had been re-gravelled that Ian steered me clear of.
On that note. Tally ho. Oh and “It's coming Home”! Lots of love & kisses Tony xxxx
