Category 6 ride led by Carolyn Kelleway
So it was a beautiful but cold sunny day at last. As conscientious leader, I delegated Pete to go to the start to collect everyone and I would meet at the top of High Cross to save me a few miles for my knee.
There were 11 riders ready to go including 4 in shorts! (they were laughing later when we were all sweating), plus two category 3 traitors. Only 3 riders the week before. Not saying anything, but might be to do with ride leader popularity!
Official ride leader was dutifully tracking the pack to meet them promptly and I noticed they left 5 minutes late. Detentions all round. Apparently Tony couldn’t load the ride - user error (more on his poor behaviour later)
Off we rode happily. They were all so pleased to see how many downhills there were, and an inclusion of the new cycle path under A602. Very nice .
No major incidents en route except a diversion through mud around a badger sett. We sloshed through a few floods and arrived safely at the Greenhouse cafe in Vanstones.
Food all served, including Ian’s hearty full English and cake. Pete decided at the last minute to have another coffee and Ryan another cake! That gave Tony a good excuse to have a fag break or two.
Just about to set off when Bruno discovered a puncture. Quickly resolved with the help of tyre lever man - with the rest of us sunning ourselves. That’s after Rebecca’s lock was broken to release her and Tony’s bikes, as Rebecca couldn’t remember the code (or it was stuck).
Route back was very downhill again - oh, with a few ups too. Tony loves those. Plenty of choice words were said.
Great ride
Thanks everyone and congratulations to Ryan on his recent wedding.
