  • Saturday Ride led by Graham K

Three met at Allenburys for the early start; Graham K, Kevin P and Peter H. We made our way to Hadham then north to Chishill via the Langleys. Return was down to Barley then down the B1368. Kevin tweaked a muscle just before Barkway which meant a slight reduction in pace - welcome in the case of the leader!

  • Saturday Ride
Three riders, Nathan Brede, David Scales and Gareth Wignall, arrived at Race HQ for the 3 rd Saturday Lanes Loop. Riding out to Hunsdon, a quick pop along the A414, on to High Wych, only stopping for 2 sets of traffic lights and a level crossing. Heading through to Furneux Pelham and Hare Street before making a hard push back to Thundridge into the headwind. 42 miles Av. 18 mph

Twelve takers for today's cat 6 ride to 'Coffee corner' cafe in Bishops Stortford.

On a lovely Sunday morning, eleven wheelers gathered at race HQ for the jaunt out
through the Essex badlands to Stapleford Abbotts. I don't know if it was the fear of
stopping in bandit country but our pace today was well up to the top of the usual
cat 6 ride. One mechanical happened on outward route and being the Essex boy it was
left to me to stand guard,.......... i mean help with the puncture. After twice
removing the valve from the tube while taking the pump off and then breaking the

Since last week's one off and valedictory report, I have received significant correspondence, namely a single letter from a Mrs Trellis of North Wales. I think her missive alone justifies a second report. She writes:

  • Off Road run led by John F
Our occasional foray along the Flitch Way drew a larger than normal off road group
of 8 Wheelers and 1 guest. Some on road miles to get us out of Sawbridgeworth
through Little Hallingbury and Hatfield Forest to join the Flitch Way at Takeley.
Passing by Little Canfield we soon arrived at Dunmow where some busy urban roads
unfortunately have to be negotiated to get us back on route east of the town.
Thereafter a better maintained section of the route gives us a good run into Rayne,

It's back! Like a cork bobbing in the ocean of Sunday ride reports, the midweek ride review has re-emerged. Post Brexit, it has renewed vigour, self confidence and a swagger all of its own. It flies in the face of  bureaucracy and limited vision. It's your super soaraway Wednesday ride report for 20th July!

Five riders floated via Stanstead Abbotts to Allens Green, did a loop, but found the return journey a bit of a schlepp into a stiffening breeze. 25 miles at 15 mph.

A great Sunday of televised sport meant the usual category 6 live feed could not happen. No highlights either. So you will have to make do with this verbal baloney. Ten left Hertford, all arriving at Church Farm, Ardeley, without incident. The return started with eight, then reduced to seven, all by choice. In truth it would never have made gripping sport, but the badinage was up to scratch. 31 miles.

An early start from Hertford attracted a trusting trio who were not only

13 at the start for today's trip out to Codicotte, in what was probably the best
weather we've had for some time. I'd received a call earlier letting me know that
three wheelers on their way to the set off point were delayed due to a slight
mechanical and would catch us up on route. We were only just outside Hertford when
we heard the delightful tones of Messrs Taylor and North..... they were still about
500 yards away but you know how sound travels!!, Somehow Mike's tyre liner had

A routine ride to Mocha cafe in Stortford was marked by some squally showers and a puncture for the ride leader. Showing the initiative, decisiveness, leadership and dynamism of Norman Wisdom rather than Norman Schwarzkopf, he made a futile try at sorting it. Others stepped in to solve the issue - thankfully. At Mocha, the group was sent upstairs - nothing to do with the welcome return of Danny North! Eleven riders over 33 miles, Mr Grimsdale.

Where do I begin, to tell the story?...

What a wonderful ride, perfect weather, lovely route, great company.

  • Cat 3 run led by Barry P
Seven wheelers braved the sun and chill on a 60m tour of Essex. The roads out through Roydon, Epping, Theydon, Garnon, Passiingford Bridge, Kelvedon Hatch, Blackmore were busy with cyclists enjoying the sun but wishing they had knee warmers and gillets !  After refreshments we returned via Norton heath ,Willingale ,Fyfield ,Moreton ,Matching Green, Sawbridgeworth. No punctures or mechanicals (or crashes !)

"The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip       hooray!!"

On what was the hottest day of the year so far,  11 wheelers set off from base camp heading for Cafe Mocha. Out through the Hadhams and up the hill to Upwick green and then down through Farnham into Bishop's stortford. Refreshments taken it was then back to HQ via the usual route of Pig Lane, Spellbrook and Widford.
Beautiful sunshine, a gentle breeze and no major mechanicals made for an extremely enjoyable ride.

  • Lots of enjoyment in the sunshine but an unfortunate end for Danny N.

  • Cat 6 run led by Bob B
Ten Wheelers set off from Allenburys for The Village Tearooms at Hatfield Heath on a pretty raw morning. Nothing eventful on the way out via Wareside, Babbs Green, Much Hadham before avoiding the flooded road at Hadham Ford and heading back towards Widford to take Bourne Lane to Perry Green, Green Tye and Spellbrook. A loop round New Barn Lane and Hatfield Broad Oak saw us arrive in good time for refreshments at café.

  • Cat 3 run led by Peter B
A good turnout on a sunny (but cool) day saw 15 of us set out for Saffron Walden. Out through the Hadhams, Berden, Ugley and Widdington we stuck to mostly quiet roads before arriving at a very busy Bicicletta cafe. Three made their own way back and, refreshed, the remaining 12 headed back via Arkesden (scene of a minor unseating of two riders - but no serious injuries), Clavering, Hare Street, Puckeridge, Wadesmill to Ware. A moderately hilly 53 miles with no problems.
Cat 8 (MTB) led by John Farnham

  • Three groups enjoy themselves on a sunny day ...

  • Cat 3 run led by Barry P
Port Hill was the warm up for ten wheelers on a ride out to Baldock Garden Centre via Dane End, Ardeley, Rushden, Wallington and Returning via Weston, Halls Green, Walkern and Watton. A sunny day with no breakdowns meant we could all get home in time for the Tour of Flanders and watch some "real pain" (no cakes!).
