Club Run Reports Sunday 11th September 2016

Cat 6 run led by Danny H
14 wheelers plus 1 made the grand depart from Allenburys heading to Stapleford
abbotts airfield and luckily 15 arrived there. The great weather and smooth road
surfaces made for a fast pace today,  which was just as well because I managed
somehow to fit in an extra 6 miles to the advertised length and once again lose some
of the group. I don't know what it is about the junction onto the Epping new road at
Thornwood common but for some reason whenever I lead a ride through there it behaves
like the Bermuda triangle. We all enter but only some come out! . One completely
disappearing and then miraculously reappearing at stapleford the others only
vanishing for a while.  Thankfully there were no mishaps and everyone was fed and
watered in the sunshine to the sight of planes taking off and landing.
The extra miles and lots of hills made it a fairly hard ride but everyone their
credit managed it ok. Epping upland was renamed F*$&+!g upland though by someone....
Lovely weather, great company, what's not to like.

Off Road run led by John F
3 Wheelers and 1 Guest rider left Ware for an unconventional route to Ardeley via
Poles Lane, Thundridge old church, Barwick ford, Latchford, Plashes farm, Standon
Green End, Trenchern hills, Haultwick, Great Munden and along the old Roman road to
Hare Street and on to Church Farm tea rooms. Tim & Angela Dobson were already
there having ridden out directly from home, so we were able to sit out in the sun
with them and have some cycling talk and good food. A slightly shorter return route
through Bassus Green, Clay End, Walkern Park farm, Green End, Dane End, Sacombe
Green, Stonyhills, Rickneys quarry, Bengeo, Ware Park back to Ware. 35 miles.

Cat 3 run led by Tony and Nathan

An earlier start for the Cat 3 ride today attracted 11 riders.
A brisk pace out of ware instigated by Nathan and Fast Barry, was too much for Kiwi
John on his Brompton.
The ride eventually settled down and we all arrived safely at Granchester, to enjoy
the delightful setting of The Orchard Tea garden, enjoying the last rays of summer.
No mechanicals on the return leg saw everyone back by 1.30.
