Category 6 ride led by Mike East

When the weather is like Sunday's and the ride still goes ahead, it is tempting for ride leaders to target in their report those who, after looking out the window, choose their quilt ahead of donning lycra. This is, of course, a very puerile and smug thing to do. Readers of this report can therefore feel assured that Sunday's lily-livered, fair-weather, lie-a-bed, lightweight snowflakes are safe from such abuse. Just wanted to make that clear!
A group of five left in persistent rain, which turned intermittent, then stopped. A windy and winding route was followed to the Buntingford Cafe, where they were joined by a post (postponed) race recovery category 3/5 rider. The half dozen returned to Ware without incident. 34 miles.

Cat 3\5 - PW

Seems that I can choose whichever category I want as I was Billy-No-Mates.  With certain riders turning up at the start, and then returning home, it was up to me to fly the flag for the hardened, seasoned wannabees of the 3's & 5's.  So I toured to join up with the 'Lightweights' at Buntingford although in reality there was nothing lightweight about them - hardened professionals!  Although it rained for a while I was soon flying along in bright sunshine, although it was still very windy.  After I left the group for the last three miles the heavens reopened although by this time I didn't care any more.

Category 8 off road ride led by John Farnham

Once again the weather gods have conspired against the Herts Wheelers club run schedule and sent heavy early Sunday morning rain when we least needed it.  So it was that only 3 members took to the start in Hertford for our ride of old railway lines to St Albans. A soggy but rideable Cole Green Way took us to Welwyn Garden City and a tortuous combination of purpose made cycle routes and back streets put us in the direction of Hatfield. Upon crossing the East Coast Main Line in Hatfield the rain stopped and the sun came out for our trip along the Alban Way into St Albans. Just before Verulamium Park we met up with El Presidente, John Pearson, who had ridden out from home to join us for the tea stop at Inn On The Park. Return via the same route in decent sunshine and we mostly a tail wind. 33 miles. The non-participants missed out on a decent day (in the end).
