Category 6 ride led by Mike East
The recent ride weather trend has been rain out, dry back. Time for a dry ride throughout? Fat chance in 2017. Twelve members ate up the miles to the Vanstone Garden Centre just north of Codicote. Previous visits to this cafe have been marred by slow, inconsistent service. It is now "under new management" and staff successfully met our needs within a reasonable time scale. Fed and watered we stepped outside into rain, which persisted all the way back to Hertford. The ride leader suffered a puncture - thanks go to John F for expert support and guidance. 33 miles.
Post script - The ride leader had a second puncture on the way into Hoddesdon after the ride. Franco, the Flintfinder General, did the business this time.
Category 3 ride led by Barry Page
The heavy rain stayed in the weatherman's imagination leaving us Wheelers with a good day's cycling. Nine riders, including two first timers, set off up Port Hill to Wadesmill and along the old A10 from where we headed through Ardeley, Cottered, Throcking, Sandon and Therfield to Royston. An uneventful journey out without breakages or flats was rewarded with mostly bacon sarnies and coffee, making the ride back in light rain more bearable .
